Notes:
There are already 11 tabs of this song on UG but I still felt there was room for another, not least
because none of the other tabs seem to have the correct spacing. I have drawn heavily on the other
tabs to produce this one. Version 10 in particular is excellent but I found the layout and the random
spacing to be a bit confusing. I don’t claim that my version is better, just different and hopefully
easier for some people to follow. Please let me know if I’ve made any definite errors and I will
correct them.
Only three chords (D5, B5 and Gmaj7) are used for the verse and chorus. The tab below is based on
the first 2 verses and first rendition of the chorus. In the subsequent verses and choruses there are
some subtle variations in the picking patterns but they are all very similar, if not identical, to
those below. When playing live, González seems to mix up the picking patterns each time he plays the
song (as is common with folk finger-pickers) so it seems pointless to tab every variation sequentially.
If you can learn to play the tab below fluently you should find that you can play the whole song as
faithfully as you choose, as well as adding your own spontaneous variations, which is how this song
should be played in my opinion.
Where I’m not sure if González plays a very faint note, I’ve erred on the side of leaving it out(this
tends to be the second and last note of each bar).
Technique:
The thumb plays every half beat (apart from in the 1st bar of the intro) all the way through the song
by picking all the notes on the 5th and 6th (a and D) strings. The notes on the other strings are
played with the index and middle fingers and occasionally the ring finger. The exception is in the
ante-penultimate (3rd from last) bar of the bridge where the thumb plays the 4th string 5th fret.

Lyrics & Chords:
D5
One night to be confused
D5
One night to speed up truth
B5
We had a promise made

Four hands and then away
Both under influence
We had divine scent
To know what to say
Mind is a razor blade
[Chorus]
D5
To call for hands of above
D5
To lean on
B5 Gmaj7
Wouldn’t be good enough
For me, no.
One night of magic rush
The start a simple touch
One night to push and scream
And then relief
Ten days of perfect tunes
The colours red and blue
We had a promise made
We were in love
To call for hands of above
To lean on
Wouldn’t be good enough
For me, no
To call for hands of above
To lean on
Wouldn’t be good enough
[Bridge]
Dadd9/A Dadd9/A Gmaj7 Gmaj7
And you, you knew the hand of the devil
Dadd9/A Dadd9/A Gmaj7
And you, kept us awake with wolves teeth
Gmaj7
Sharing different heartbeats
B5 B5
In one night
To call for hands of above
To lean on
Wouldn’t be good enough
For me, no
To call for hands of above
To lean on
Wouldn't be good enough

This is excellent, thank you very much!

In looking at all the tabs ver. 1-9 I noticed there were a lot of repeated mistakes and I think this tab does the best job of showing the proper "patterns" in the song in a way that makes sense (I agree ver. 10 is good but way too cluttered for my tastes).
A lot of the confusion comes for the way Jose plays ghost notes (or doesn't) from verse to verse. The important thing to remember is that his fingerpicking patterns are always the same and rhythmically STEADY, he just changes the emphasized notes from time to time which accounts for slight variations.
The one thing I might add to this tab is a ghost note between the first and second bass notes of each measure (an open 4th string for instance) - not to change the melody but to make the simplicity of the rhythm clearer. Once you understand the repetition of this song, it's actually very easy and the variations are easy to pick up from there.

If you look at the tab for Jose's "Stay In The Shade (ver. 2)" you'll get a good sense of what I'm talking about.
