it does return to the Am, yes...it kind of does in my tab in that the last Am of the sequence you mean is also the first Am of the next sequence, so the chord just comes over the word he actually changes on.
To show my tab does, in fact go; Am, Em G, Am see this line:
Am Em G, Am
Anytime she goes a-way.
