Because of Django's disfigurement of his left hand he effectively only had the use of
thumb, first and second digits. So he had to play chords using these only. It has been
though that he was able in some instances to bring his disfigured fingers into play. We
will be using all of ours.
 
Django had to find a method of playing chords with his disfigurement. So he substituted
normal fingering to triads.
 
The triad is an inherently easy chord to play, and when used imaginatively can be used
great effect. Especially at speed.
 
I don't know if you are familiar with these chords but they are essential to get that
feel.
 
They all can be transposed up and down the neck as required.
 
I've always found when learning chords that putting them into context with a tune makes
task a little easier. So I'll first show you the chord shapes to the tune:

la pompe is the strumming indicative of gypsy jazz. Accent on 2&4 in a 4/4 count ex; 1 2 3 4 da-dut DA da-dut DA beat 1 & 3 are struck w/ pick as if your'e flicking out a match in one quick motion all down strokes, quick up stoke on bottom strings to begin beat 1&3, flick your match out, or just a down stoke on bottom strings for beats 1&3 count- one TWO! three FOUR!

some tips and tricks :) The first chord can also be a A7/9 with C# in the bass (x4545x) or as the C# half diminished shape (9x998x) The fourth chord is Bbdim Instead of Am6 I would play Am7 (5x55(5)x) The D7 can be played with A in the bass (5x45(5)x) or (5545(5)x) The B Part goes two times G#6, then two times A6. You can put in the dominant chords in between: | G#6 D#7 | G#6 | A6 E7 | A6 | have fun :)
