This chord arrangement and some of the lyrics are different from other versions I've seen here. I'm not implying that these are better or more correct, merely different.¿Te ha sido útil esta información?

THE GREEN FIELDS OF FRANCE – (No Man's Land) - ERIC BOGLE

VERSE 1
 D Bm G Em
Well, how do you do young Willie McBride,
       A D A
Do you mind if I sit here down by your grave-side,
    D Bm G Em
And rest for a while ‘neath the warm summer sun,
          A G D
I’ve been walking all day and I’m nearly done.)
  D Bm G Em
I see by your gravestone you were only nine-teen
         A D A
When you joined the great fallen in 19 – 16
 D Bm G Em
I hope you died well and I hope you died clean
          A G D
Or young Willie McBride was it slow and obscene?

CHORUS:
D A G D
Did they beat the drum slowly did they sound the fife lowly,
D A G D
Did the rifles fire o’er you as they lowered you down,
        G A
Did the band play the Last Post and chorus
        D G A D
Did the pipes play the ‘Flowers of the Forest’?

VERSE 2:
D Bm G Em
Did you leave e’re a wife or a sweetheart behind,
   A D A
In some faithful heart is your memory enshrined
 D Bm G Em
Although you died back in nineteen sixteen
   A G D
In that faithful heart are you forever nineteen.
   D Bm G Em
Or are you a stranger without even a name
  A D A
Enclosed forever behind a glass frame,
      D Bm G Em
In an old photograph all torn tattered and stained
    A G D
And faded to yellow in a brown leather frame.

CHORUS:
D A G D
Did they beat the drum slowly did they sound the fife lowly,
D A G D
Did the rifles fire o’er you as they lowered you down,
        G A
Did the band play the Last Post and chorus
        D G A D
Did the pipes play the ‘Flowers of the Forest’?

VERSE 3:
    D Bm G Em
The sun now it shines on the green fields of France,
          A D A
There’s a warm summer breeze makes the red poppies dance,
    D Bm G Em
And look how the sun shines from under the clouds,
           A G D
There’s no gas no barbed wire no guns firing now,
    D Bm G Em
But here in this graveyard it’s still no man’s land
    A D A
The countless white crosses in mute witness stand
   D Bm G Em
To man’s blind indifference to his fellow man
     A G D
To a whole generation who were butchered and damned.

CHORUS:
D A G D
Did they beat the drum slowly did they sound the fife lowly,
D A G D
Did the rifles fire o’er you as they lowered you down,
        G A
Did the band play the Last Post and chorus
        D G A D
Did the pipes play the ‘Flowers of the Forest’?

VERSE 4:
         D Bm G Em
Ah young Willie McBride I can’t help wonder why,
   A D A
Do all those who lie here know why they did die
    D Bm G Em
And did they believe when they answered the call,
         A G D
Did they really believe that this war would end wars.
         D Bm G Em
Well the sorrow, the suffering, the glory, the pain,
    A D A
The killing and dying were all done in vain,
          D Bm G Em
For young Willie McBride it’s all happened again,
    A G D
And again and again and again and again.

CHORUS:
D A G D
Did they beat the drum slowly did they sound the fife lowly,
D A G D
Did the rifles fire o’er you as they lowered you down,
        G A
Did the band play the Last Post and chorus
        D G A D
Did the pipes play the ‘Flowers of the Forest’?

Question in the chorus lowered you down shouldn't the down be a D and the last post and Chorus chorus be a G? Cheers

Ah. Was just checking out version 1 with the wrong year in the lyrics. Ment it as a complement. This is a nice version and plays well.

The German version is very good too, it calls "Es ist an der Zeit" by Hannes Waader🤓
