I prefer to tune it down and play the sequence Gm (3rd fret) A# (6th fret) Dm (5th fret) and Cm7 (3rd fret)

I'd suggest using Asus2 rather than Am for the verses. The note coming from the second string clashes with the note being sung whenever the Am is played. In the chorus Am sounds great, however, I don't think it quite fits with the verse.

I prefer to play it Am, Em, Gm, Dm7 with capo on 1. May not be perfect but it sounds good!
