I play it in standard tuning and its not a hassle to play and it sounds fine. Then you don't have to F with the tuning.

For what i´ve been researching, it´s an open g, but the 1st string is an E. yo can see on the videos that when he strums the open g chord, he presses de 1st and 2nd string´s 3rd fret. also at the intro he plays the C pressing the 8th fret on the 1st string. hope this is helpfull.

right tuning, but
G and C also include the octave 5 frets up on the e string.
