The Godfather 50Th Anniversary - Christmas - Prelude To Murder Tab

Track no. 5 on disc 1 of The Godfather 50th Anniversary expanded and remastered edition:
Christmas / Prelude To Murder.
 
This deleted segment was to play as Kay and Michael are seen shopping for Christmas presents, but got
replaced by a snippet of Al Martino's rendition of Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas. I currently
have no information available whether Carlo Savina, Peter King or Carmine Coppola conducted that...
One of a few things La-La-Land Records unfortunately failed to publish, it remains unreleased as of today.
 
It was composed by Nino Rota, then titled Natale (Christmas). As Franco Sciannameo was granted insight
by Rota's estate, the worksheet revealed in January 1972:
 
"XMAS AND LUCA scored for 8 Boy Sopranos, Fl, Ob, Cl, Bsn, Hn, Hp, Pn, Cel, Cordovox, Strings", as well as:
"PRELUDE TO MURDER marked Allegretto Natalizio, scored for Ll, Ob, Hp, Xyl, Cel, Acc, Strings".
 
So this ended up being another mashup of what originally were two tracks. The Luca cue was re-worked
into another mashup, Sollozzo The Turk / Luca Brasi on this re-release. Sciannameo writes in his book
The Godfather Trilogy - A Film Score Guide:
 
"The non diegetic music accompanying this episode is a seasonally appropriate song by Hugh Martin and
Ralph Blane entitled Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas performed by Al Martino impersonating the
fictional celebrity Johnny Fontane encountered at Connie’s wedding. The couple’s bliss is caught by a
medium shot of traffic and pedestrians showing them kissing as they walk. After Christmas shopping
Michael and Kay adjourn for a late afternoonat the movies. Next they exit Radio City Music Hall where
they watched The Bells of St. Mary, a film by Leo McCarey starring Ingrid Bergman and Bing Crosby.
While walking, Michael and Kay engage in a dialogue underscored by the non diegetic strains of
The Bells of St. Mary’s film’s title song written by A. E. Adams and Douglas Furber, which offers to
the viewer the impression that the tune was still ringing in their ears."
 
The lowest register of the bassoon is going to be out of range, therefore it can optionally be played
as fretted harmonics; Fret the note and place the index finger of the picking hand 12 frets higher,
then strike the string from that position with the thumb. It is otherwise mirroring the cello lines.
Other strings are a bowed higher section and both a lower and a higher plucked section. The cordovox is
just a type of electric accordion. Various lead voices will momentarily emerge and fade out again. Other
voices will be playing drones or accents. It was impossible to write these elements out relative to each
other, so I added more time stamps for clarification and bigger spaces between segments. Transposal to
the mandolin in standard tuning, GDae.
