St Vincent - Marrow
Album: Actor (2009)

I love love love this song. Since I heard it on Letterman I really wanted to know how to
play the sax-ish parts, so I tried to figure it out. Corrections are VERY welcome!

Klarinet-part, two ways to play, I like them both. The first gives you that glitchy not-yet-sound.

e----------------------------------------------------------|
b----------------------------------------------------------|
g-12---12---...-10---10---...-8----8----...-5---5---...----|
d----15---15-...---13---13-...--12---12-...---8---8-...----|

e----------------------------------------------------------|

Or, of course, you can just hammer/pulloff like this

e------------------------------------------------------------|
b------------------------------------------------------------|
g12p10h12.....10p8h10.....8p7h8....5p3h5.....----------------|
d------------------------------------------------------------|

I have no clue what to play during the verse except for the scratching on the strings.

I thought it's kinda silly to try and play the solo as correct as possible. Listen
closely and you'll understand. Buy a fuzz and an octaver and take the chance to go mental
yourself ;)

I'm not sure about the fourth note in chorus b. Is it an a, a# or c? Please tell me if
you have an idea! (triple rhyme!)

As an added note, the growl is made by hammering the guitar with your fist on the upper corner, and the hissing is made by hand scrapes. She also employs a combination of sliding her left hand up the e(the one tuned to d) and a strings picked once to start, then she picks the 3 high strings behind the bridge to give this voicing a shriek at the end. Watch the Austin City Limits performance, and you'll see this technique used before the 2nd verse.

e---------------------------------- b---------------------8-8/10------- g---------------------------------- d------------5--------------------- a-----6----3---8-8-8--------------- d---8----5--------------------7-3-- This is what I picked off ACL performance, St. Vincent Capo's the first fret, and drops the low e to d. (Better for hitting the guitar sound) e------------------------------ b---------10------------------- g--10-8-7----8-------7--------- d---------------10-8---8-7-8-10 a------------------------------ d------------------------------ This is the Chorus B riff, with the fourth note seemingly correct. Also for the verse you can play G A A# C, then G A B C#, and alternate the two.
