My First Tab was needed because the other tabs didn't feel right and this one
does. I used the 50th anniversary 2012 live rendition to interpret this song. With barney
alive and Seán Cannon singing (he plays something like this on that show).

Cheers!

In a neat little town they call Belfast, Apprenticed to trade I was bound

Her eyes they shone like the diamonds, I thought her the queen of the land
         G Em C D G
And her hair it hung over her shoulder, Tied up with the Black Velvet Band

   G C D
I took a stroll with this pretty fair maid, And the gentleman passing us by
   G Em C D G

A goldwatch she took from his pocket, And she placed it right into me hand

And the very first that I thought was, That looked like the black velvet band

[Chorus]

     G C D
Her eyes they shone like the diamonds, I thought her the queen of the land
         G Em C D G

You'll be given seven years of penal servitude, You'll be sentenced to a far away land.
     G Em C D G

For they'll feed you with strong drinks "More Yeah", untill you are unable to stand

I lovely popular song, unfortunately for me the first time I heard it played was by a live band in a bar, and I couldn't make out the chorus lyric. The way I heard it first is stuck in my mind, (even though I know the correct words now), I can't hear it any other way. Rather than picturing some Celtic beauty, all I imagine is some poor unfortunate girl with an extremely bizarre affliction. I hear, '...her hairy tongue over her shoulder, tied up with a black velvet band' LOL
