I play a C9 and G9 instead of a normal C and G. It sounds a little better I think. I also add in a few hammers from D to Dsus4 to spice it up a bit. Good tab.

C9 yes, but with an open E.
No G9... (I assume you mean Gadd9, not Gmaj9, neither of which are used. Besides it sounds kind of funny too.
Am7 and C are so close in sound, but he actually plays the Am7
There is no D7 for sure.
The hammer-ons are great on the D, and he also does it on the Am7.
The verses are D-Am7-G. The chorus is D-C9-G
