It's been 15 years since I left home
D Em C

If you have an idea how to walk the bass notes for transition, it just makes this song way better; which can be said about most songs. Also, I prefer taking the Am bass walk in the the chorus not to the Em but Am walk to a C Major, D, G. Try this- It's a (D) great day to (Em) be alive, I know the (Am bass walk: 5th string; open, 2,3, 4th string open or A,B,C,D) Maybe somewhat advanced but try it, it's actually not hard at all.

I don't see any reason why this is in drop D

When you have a C chord immediately following a G (for example the first line where it goes Rice [G]...in the [C]micro[G]wave), I find it a bit easier to play a Cadd9 chord instead and it still sounds fine. All other instances of C can be played as the standard chord. Just a fun tip I thought I'd share for anyone struggling with the fairly quick chord changes; by no means does this tabulation need changing, it's perfect as is!
