True! But I prefer to say Am/C because it's less confusing. Am/C is just a first inversion Am, which is C-E-A. C6 however, contains four notes C-E-G-A. And the chord played in the song doesn't not contain the G note. Therefore it's not truly a C6 chord. It is only implied. The three tones being played are A-C-E, which is an Am. Which is why I prefer Am/C. It's confusing to say C6 because you're not playing the G note.

Another way of looking at is Am7/C. C6 and Am7 are the same chord with a different bass. C6 = C-E-G-A. Am7 = A-C-E-G. Which is why music theory causes so much confusion.
