Song written by Tim Spencer. He was one of the original Sons of the Pioneers. In 1947 Tim was in Louisville, KY with the Roy Rogers Circus. In their hotel, Tim's churchgoing wife lectured him on the kind of life he was leading. He wrote this song in reply. Tim intended the song to be serious. It was first recorded by Red Ingle who did a funny version. All 3 original verses are included and a fourth verse that was added later. This version has chord progression: G-C-G-A7-D7-G-C-G-D7-G.¿Te ha sido útil esta información?

[Verse 1]
G                     C          G
Once I was hap-py and had a good wife;
                       A7          D7
I had enough mon-ey to last me for life.
  G                      C         G
I met with a gal, and we went on a spree;
                            D7          G
She taught me to smoke_ and drink_ whus_key.

[Chorus]
G                          C          G
Cig-a-reetes, whus-key and wild, wild wom-en,
                                  A7           D7
They'll drive you cra-zy; they'll drive you in-sane.---
G                          C          G
Cig-a-reetes, whus-key and wild, wild wom-en,
                                  D7           G
They'll drive you cra-zy; they'll drive you in-sane.---

[Verse 2]
G                    C            G
Now I am fee-ble and bro-ken with age;
                            A7            D7
The lines on my face make a well writ-ten page.
    G                         C           G
I'm leav-ing this sto-ry, how sad but how true.
                           D7             G
On wo-men and whus-key and what they will do.

[Chorus]
G                          C          G
Cig-a-reetes, whus-key and wild, wild wom-en,
                                  A7           D7
They'll drive you cra-zy; they'll drive you in-sane.---
G                          C          G
Cig-a-reetes, whus-key and wild, wild wom-en,
                                  D7           G
They'll drive you cra-zy; they'll drive you in-sane.---

[Verse 3]
G                         C          G
Write on the cross at the head of my grave,
                              A7          D7
"For wo-men and whus-ky, here lies a poor slave."
     G                              C              G
Take warn-ing, dear strang-er, take warn-ing, dear friend,
                                 D7           G
Then write in big let-ters these words at the end:

[Chorus]
G                          C          G
Cig-a-reetes, whus-key and wild, wild wom-en,
                                  A7           D7
They'll drive you cra-zy; they'll drive you in-sane.---
G                          C          G
Cig-a-reetes, whus-key and wild, wild wom-en,
                                  D7           G
They'll drive you cra-zy; they'll drive you in-sane.---

[Verse 4]
G                                C          G
Cig-a-reetes are a blight on the whole human race,
                       A7         D7
A man is a mon-key with one in his face;
     G                          C             G
Take warn-ing dear friend, take warn-ing dear brother,
                       D7           G
A fire's on one end, a fools on the other.

[Chorus]
G                          C          G
Cig-a-reetes, whus-key and wild, wild wom-en,
                                  A7           D7
They'll drive you cra-zy; they'll drive you in-sane.---
G                          C          G
Cig-a-reetes, whus-key and wild, wild wom-en,
                                  D7           G
They'll drive you cra-zy; they'll drive you in-sane.---
