I think the first two notes in the riff are palm muted -----------3p0-0---| -----------0---0---| -------1-----------| -------2-----------| -------------------| --0----------------| PM PM

I agree that it's in Open D (DADF#AD). It sounds really close to the recording to me. Play the main riff like this (with the palm mutes as alinktothepast9 mentioned) -------3p0-0---| -------0---0---| ----0----------| ----0----------| ---------------| --0------------| Another example I found was at the 1st break (note the only changes are on the D string) -------------3----------------------------| -3/5-5-5p3----------5—3h5-3h5---3---------| -----------3------------------3---3/1p0---| ------------------------------------------| ------------------------------------------| ------------------------------------------| It sounds much closer to the recording in Open D to me. What this means for the intro and the other breaks, idk.
