The best way to get the same sound they use on the record is to use an acoustic guitar
and mute all the other strings while "strumming" the low E, if that makes any sense.
 
 
The chord progression is basically the same thing from what I can hear:

Still not 100% about the whole thing, but it sounds pretty good to me.
